SummarySocial Exclusion in the chilean labour market and the integration of high qualified workers: the case of the teleworkers

The aim of this dissertation is to discuss and to analyze the arise and development of the so-called “precarious” resp. “social excluding labour conditions”, that means short-term, non contract regulated and non social secure labour conditions in the Chilean labour market. So far this transformation process was studied at the structural social level, that means it has been focused on the flexibilization and deregulation process of the labour legislation and the firm relocation processes in this country. This analytical perspective seems still to be a partial explanation of the changes of the chilean labour world in the last decades, because thereby individuals are seen just as observers and receptors of such processes and an unique “social inclusion model” was assumed. This study assumes that the emergence and development of such labour conditions aren’t just the result of these changes at structural level, but also the transformations at institutional and subjective level. The research perspective used here was therefore a subject oriented perspective, which has been summarized by the “biographical integration work”-concept. Using this term I try to reconstruct the synchronic und diachronic integration of individuals, that means there simultaneous everyday integration to the different life spheres (work, family, education, etc.) and the construction and conservation of their biography. Beyond this theoretical framework an empirical research was done. It has focused on female and male high qualified workers from different age groups, who were development at this time a teleworking integration form. Using an semi-structured and problem-centered Interviews their previous biography and there integration attitudes to the different life spheres as well as their concrete everyday integration strategies and there “secure concepts” were analyzed. This study shows that teleworking integration forms are constructed by individuals to reach a greater room for acting and developing themselves. However, new integration tensions can emerge, which could danger the future development of these integration strategies.
