| Summary | The thesis is a new critical edition of the Gavamayana-chapter, part of Jaiminiya-Brahmana (JB) of the samavedic Jaiminiya-school. This chapter deals with the soma sacrifice "gavaam-ayana" (way of the cows), which is the basic form of sattra soma sacrifices. A part of this chapter (JB 2.1 to 80) was previously published in the edition of Lokesh Chandra in 1950. In 1954, the complete JB was eventually published by Raghu Vira and Lokesh Chandra. The edition at hand is published using five South Indian Manuscripts, written in Malayalam and Grantha. Two of these manuscripts had not been used in the prior editions. In the edition of Raghu Vira and Lokesh Chandra, the Gavamayana-chapter was erroneously divided into two parts and rearranged in the wrong order. The introduction discusses this mistake in detail. |
